When You’re Not Sure If It’s God or Just You

Faith & Obedience

“Commit your actions to the Lord, and your plans will succeed.”
— Proverbs 16:3

I’ve struggled with this verse—honestly, I still do.

Not because I don’t want to commit my plans to the Lord, but because sometimes… I can’t tell if the plan came from Him in the first place.

When I dream, I dream big.
I get ideas. Visions. Downloads.
And almost immediately, the doubt creeps in:
Is this from God? Or is it just something I want so badly, I’ve convinced myself it’s His voice?

Can you relate?

For me, learning to discern God’s direction has looked less like lightning bolts and more like quiet alignment. Not striving, not obsessing—but slowing down to stay connected to the Source.

The way I try (keyword: try!) to walk this out is simple, but not always easy:

I stay in prayer. I talk to God honestly, and often.

I stay in the Word. The more I know His heart, the more I recognize His voice.

I practice what I learn. Not perfectly—but faithfully.

When I do those things, I find it easier to commit my actions to Him, because I’m not just asking Him to bless my blueprint—I’m aligning myself to His.

And little by little, I’m learning to trust that if I’m seeking Him sincerely, He’ll lead me faithfully.

So today, if you’re unsure whether that next step is God’s idea or just a good idea—pause.
Pray.
Ask for clarity.
And keep committing it all to Him, one act of obedience at a time.

Because He does guide.
He does speak.
And He is trustworthy.
